This is one of my favourite beginning of the year art activities- get kids to draw a self portrait, which you (or the kids) can then trace over with black marker.
The kids then tear up pieces of tissue paper and glue onto paper to create a collage background. It would be great to do this again at the end of the year and see the difference!
