R-Controlled Vowel Ar Sound Game

Are you teaching the r-controlled vowel sounds and looking for engaging, fun literacy games with eer sound words? Use these r-controlled vowel sound worksheets as a low-prep literacy center to consolidate an understanding of the eer phoneme.

This game can be used in a variety of ways to consolidate r-controlled vowel eer spellings:

• Use as a word sort to discover the different ways of representing the sound
• Read out a word, and students write all the possible spelling alternatives, then circle the word that looks correct.
• Read out a word, students select the correct spelling alternative, and write it in the corresponding column.

This activity can be used as a whole class, group or partner activity.

2 different levels are included. For the harder levels, just print the extra coloured word cards.

IMPORTANT: Please note that this resource assumes an accent where both 'ar' and 'a' can make the /ar/ phoneme. E.g. dark, farm and path, fast.
