Are your students learning to follow directions and interpret simple maps? These Town Features task cards can be used for position and direction lessons.
Includes 32 different town buildings and features.
Suggested activity:
Take students out to a large concrete area of the school, and bring along some chalk. Give each student a town building or feature. (Examples: house, hospital, police station, pond, shop, pool, tree, fountain etc). Students spread out around the area and draw their building or feature on the ground. In partners, one student gives their partner directions to get from one drawn object to another, using the language forward, left and right. Students swap roles each time they play.
This activity is included in The Hive's Math program for Position: Following Directions (Grades 1 & 2).
