Race to 500 is a low-prep dice game that builds addition, subtraction and multiplication fluency through repeated, intentional practice. Students roll two dice, add, subtract or multiply the face value, then keep a running cumulative total until they reach (or race from) the goal number.
Three differentiated versions are included, so you can adjust the challenge based on where your students are:
Race to 100 - Addition and Race to 100 - Multiplication: shorter game, suits students building early fluency
Race to 250 - Addition and Race to 250 - Multiplication: mid-range challenge .
Race to 500 - Addition and Race to 500 - Multiplication: extended version for students ready for larger numbers
Race from 500, Race from 250 and Race from 100 - Subtraction: students start at the goal number and race back to zero, building subtraction fluency and place value understanding .
Students can use a whiteboard alongside the recording sheets to track cumulative totals, which supports mental computation alongside place value work.
Simply print and use - you'll need coloured counters (one colour per player) and a 12-sided die.
