Are you teaching persuasive writing or opinion writing in the early years and looking for a wide range of engaging, fun activities for teaching persuasive writing?


A variety of writing templates and activities are included for the mentor text: Hey, Little Ant

  • “To squish or not to squish”- draw or write reasons for and against in the table. 
  • “3 Reasons To…”- draw or write 3 reasons to squish the ant or 3 reasons to save the ant. 
  • “Convince me”- should the boy squish the ant or save the ant?
  • “Dear Kid”- write a letter and tell the kid whether he should/shouldn’t squish the ant. 
  • “Through the eyes of…”- draw or write the perspective of both the kid and the ant. 
  • Mini book- print two to a page and staple together. Kids write their reasons to squish the ant or to save the ant. 
  • “Squish that ant!” or “Don’t squish that ant”- kids can write or draw their reasons for squishing or saving the ant.
  • Ant hundreds chart colouring activity. 
Also includes PowerPoint slides to work through activities as a whole class + hyperlinked read aloud of the book.
