  • Add and subtract two- and three-digit numbers using place value to partition, rearrange and regroup numbers to assist in calculations without a calculator (AC9M3N03)

NSW Curriculum:
  • Outcomes:

    • Selects and uses mental and written strategies for addition and subtraction involving 2- and 3-digit numbers (MA2-AR-01)

    • Completes number sentences involving addition and subtraction by finding missing values (MA2-AR-02)

  • Content:

    • Select strategies to flexibly solve addition and subtraction problems of up to 3 digits

      • Apply known mental strategies that use partitioning to add and subtract, such as bridging the decades

      • Use the compensation strategy to add and subtract 

      • Apply the levelling and constant difference strategies
