The Hive

This resource is inside The Hive, along with thousands more, plus powerful digital tools and time-saving systems.

Explore how numbers are ordered on a hundred chart with this ordering numbers activity. Students choose a two digit number, colour its square, then shade the squares that are one more, one less, ten more and ten less. They then cut the chart into strips and rearrange them end to end to form a number line from 1 to 100, discovering how the position of numbers changes from a grid to a line.

What's included:

  • 2 templates with different cut lines (vertical and horizontal), so you can choose how the chart splits into strips

  • Australian and US spelling versions

Hive members also have access to the full Hundred Square app, which lets you explore number patterns and relationships digitally alongside this hands-on activity.
