Are you teaching students to orthographically map Long Vowel I words? This decodable word mapping mats are a low-prep phonics activity which can be used to consolidate early phonics skills. Students can blend and segment a wide variety of long vowel i words with 3 and 4 sounds (all common spellings included).

Students complete the following steps for each long vowel i word:
  • Say the word
  • Tap the word
  • Map the word (drag counters or other manipulatives, one for each sound in the word)
  • Spell the word - this could be written, or using alphabet manipulatives
3 different versions of the mats are included, as well as 70+ long vowel I picture cards.
