Are you teaching students to orthographically map Long Vowel A words? This decodable word mapping mats are a low-prep phonics activity which can be used to consolidate early phonics skills. Students can blend and segment a wide variety of long vowel a words with 3 and 4 sounds (all common spellings included).

Students complete the following steps for each long vowel a word:
  • Say the word
  • Tap the word
  • Map the word (drag counters or other manipulatives, one for each sound in the word)
  • Spell the word - this could be written, or using alphabet manipulatives
