This resource (and thousands more!) is inside The Hive, plus powerful digital tools and time-saving systems.

Consolidate using the jump strategy for subtraction on a number line for 1 and 2-digit numbers.

3 levels are included:
  • Level 1: Students need to work out what number has been subtracted e.g. if there are two jumps of 10, and four jumps of 1, then the number 24 has been subtracted
  • Level 2: Students work out what number has been subtracted, as well as record the jumps along the number line
  • Level 3: students record the numbers along the number line, the number added, and the total.
Students can jump by tens then ones, or by ones then tens, depending on how you have taught them.

This activity is included in The Hive's Math program for FORMING MULTIPLES OF 10 FOR SUBTRACTION (Grades 1 & 2).
