This resource is inside The Hive, along with thousands more, plus powerful digital tools and time-saving systems.

Are you looking for a fun, self-checking activity to practise identifying subordinating conjunctions? Students choose the correct subordinating conjunction to complete each complex sentence, then use the corresponding letters to crack the joke at the bottom of the page. Not all letters are used, which keeps students from guessing their way through.

This resource includes two versions — one for each teaching sequence — so you can use whichever set of conjunctions your students are currently working with, or both across a unit.

What's included:

  • Version 1: I SAW A WABUB -3 different joke code cracker worksheets, each with 8 sentences and a joke to solve, plus answer keys

  • Version 2: A WHITE BUS - 3 different joke code cracker worksheets, each with 8 sentences and a joke to solve, plus answer keys
