This pack of high-frequency word printables can be used as worksheets for phonics review activities. Some suggestions for how to align these print and go worksheets can with evidence-based practices are below.
The following activity ideas are designed to be used only after students have already been explicitly taught the word and the ‘heart’ or tricky part of the word. These activities and games will then provide students with repeated exposure to the word, so that they can commit those words to memory.
This pack includes the following pre-made templates
- Find & Colour: over 15 pre-done templates with common high-frequency words
- Find & Cover: over 30 pre-done templates ready to print and go with common high-frequency words
There are also editable PowerPoint slides where you can add your own words for students to find & colour, or find & cover.
Some things to keep in mind during high-frequency word games or activities:
- Ensure students are building letter-sound associations
- Build in phonemic awareness skills (segmenting the word, mapping the word)
- Use self-checking or peer-checking so that students will receive immediate feedback, and are practising the correct spelling.
