Use mathematical modelling to solve practical problems involving additive situations including simple money transactions, represent the situations with diagrams, physical and virtual materials, and use calculation strategies to solve the problem (AC9M1N05)
NSW Curriculum (COMBINING & SEPARATING QUANTITIES A):
Outcomes:
Uses number bonds and the relationship between addition and subtraction to solve problems involving partitioning (MA1-CSQ-01)
Content:
Use flexible strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems
Use non-count-by-one strategies such as using doubles or near doubles and combining numbers that add to ten
Represent addition using structured materials such as a bead string or similar model
Select and apply strategies using number bonds to solve addition problems with one- and two-digit numbers by partitioning numbers using quantity value and bridging to 10
