Develop students’ understanding of mass by using balance scales and benchmark weights to work out unknown values. This activity strengthens reasoning skills by encouraging students to compare, combine and think mathematically about weight in kilograms.
Use the benchmark masses shown on the balance scales to calculate the mass of each object. Add or compare the weights carefully, then record the total mass in kilograms (kg).
