Are you looking for an open-ended activity to help students apply their understanding of halves, quarters, and eighths of lengths in a real-world context?

Students read a set of clues about a family's heights, then draw and label each family member at the correct height on the mat — using eighths, quarters, and halves to work out where each person belongs. One family member is pre-drawn as a reference point, and 8 evenly spaced markers along the side of the mat are included to help students measure. Seven different mats are included, each with a different family and a different set of fraction clues, so the activity can be used across multiple lessons or with different groups.

What's included:

  • 7 different activity mats, each with a unique family and set of height clues using halves, quarters, and eighths

  • Colour and black and white versions of all 7 mats
