Are you looking for an engaging task card activity to consolidate students' understanding of decimals in tenths? Students read each riddle, use the clues to identify the mystery decimal, and record their answers on the recording sheet - drawing on knowledge of place value, regrouping tenths, number line positioning, and comparing decimals all in one activity.

Riddle types include identifying decimals from tenths (e.g. "I am the same as 24 tenths"), place value descriptions (e.g. "I have 3 ones and 1 tenth"), number line positioning, and comparison clues with an additional constraint on the tenths digit — giving students plenty of varied reasoning practice across the set.

Number line scaffold cards can be provided to students who need support, making these cards accessible across a range of learners without needing separate versions.

What's included:

  • 24 riddle cards (coloured and black & white versions)

  • Decimal number line scaffold cards for scaffolding

  • Recording sheet (with option to write the decimal in words)

  • Answer keys included
