Are you looking for consonant digraph word games to use in your Kindergarten and Grade 1 phonics lessons? These decodable word games are a low-prep phonics activity which can be used to consolidate early phonics skills such as blending and segmenting of words with the following consonant digraphs: sh th ch wh ck ll ss ff zz qu ng
Set 1:
Words with ck
Words with ll
Words with ff
Words with zz
Words with ss
Set 2
Words with ch
Words with th
Words with sh
Words with wh
Words with qu
Words with ng
Set 3:
Words with 4 and 5 sounds (using all the consonant digraphs)
To play CRASH:
Select the cards you wish to use and add some CRASH cards (I recommend printing at least 2 x copies of the Crash card page). Place face down in a pile.
One student at a time takes a card from the pile. If they can decode the word, they keep the card. If they can’t decode the word, they get someone else in the group to help them read the word, then place at the bottom of the pile.
If a CRASH card is pulled out, the student must place all the cards they’ve won back into the pile. The CRASH card remains out of the game.
The winner is the person with the most cards at the end of the game.
If only focusing on a small group of words, I suggest printing 2 or 3 copies of each page so that there are enough cards for the game.
